I teach at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I’m Professor of Music, Director of Research in Music and Co-director of the Popular Music Research Unit. I got into music seriously as a kid, listening under the covers as hip hop crept onto the country’s airwaves; I soon worked back to soul and then jazz, where I've lingered. On the move again now as I research the next book.
If you’re interested in postgraduate research, please get in touch. At Goldsmiths we host an MA in Popular Music Research, and there’s a wide range of supervisory expertise for MPhil/PhD projects in popular music and jazz. I’m particularly keen to hear from potential applicants working on historical topics.
